Sparked by cases where women were denied access to reproductive health care while incarcerated, the NYCLU launched an investigation of policies for provision of health care specific to female inmates in county jails. Joining us this week to discuss the NYCLU's investigation of access to reproductive healthcare for incarcerated women in New York State's Jails is the NYCLU Reproductive Rights Project Attorney Corinne Carey. Carey discusses the NYCLU efforts that sent Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests to 58 counties seeking information about access to a variety of reproductive health care services, including abortion, prenatal care, routine gynecological exams, contraception, testing and treatment for HIV or sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
