In our first segment this week, we hear from Jamil Dakwar, Director of the ACLU's Human Rights Program. Dakwar was in Guantánamo Bay from April 9 through 11, for the military commissions hearings of three detainees held there. Following Dakwar's report, we get a John Adams Project Update as we hear from Retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral and Judge Advocate General John Hutson talking about the military commission system and why it's important that the Guantánamo proceedings are as fair as possible
This Tuesday, April 29th is Equality and Justice Day in Albany, we get updated on the NYCLU's efforts to get meaningful legislation passed in New York State that would help win marriage fairness, transgender non-discrimination protections, safe schools for LGBT youth, and more funding for our community’s health and human services needs.
