(September 27, 2008) A few weeks ago, Radio Civil Liberties brought its listeners the story of Diane Schroer, a retired Army Colonel who was offered a job as a terrorism research analyst at the Library of Congress, only to have the offer rescinded when she told her future supervisor that she was in the process of gender transition. This week, we bring listeners the news of Schroer's victory in Federal Court against the Library of Congress and, more importantly, a unique victory against discrimination for transgendered Americans in Federal Court. In our second segment, once again the subject is: Your Right to Vote. The NYCLU's Voter's Rights campaign is in full swing--and your opportunity to participate is rapidly coming toward the voter's registration deadline of October 10th. As part of our efforts to "re-enfranchise" otherwise eligible voters, you need to know that in New York, you can vote while you are on probation or once you have completed parole. Your voting rights are automatically restored, but you have to register in order to vote. You do not need any special documentation to register.
You must register by Friday, Oct. 10 in order to vote in the upcoming presidential election.

Make sure your voice is heard in November.

Exercise your right to vote.

If you or anyone you know has a problem registering to vote because of a criminal record, or you have trouble voting on election day, you can call
