This week on Radio Civil Liberties, as Buffalo and WNY celebrate 2008 Pride week, Radio Civil Liberties takes a look at the origins and background of the annual celebration and its beginnings in the Stonewall Riots of June 1969. Our first report comes to us from WBAI and Rustbelt Radio and highlights a short interview with David Carter, author of "Stonewall: the Riots that Sparked the Gay Revolution" Interview with author David Carter (.mp3 at 24mb) Not enough people know the truth about The Reproductive Health Act, a New York State bill that would, strengthen New York’s laws and safeguard a woman’s ability to make one of life’s most important and life-changing decisions – whether or when to have children. The NYCLU's Reproductive Rights Project has done a tremendous amount of work to educate New Yorkers --as opponents of this bill have been spreading blatant misinformation about what it does. In our second segment this week, we hear from NYCLU Reproductive Rights Project Director, Galen Sherwin, and Chloe Dugger of the NYCLU; Katherine Grainger of NARAL, ProChoice New York; JoAnn Smith of Family Planning Advocates of New York State; and Gillian Dean of Planned Parenthood of New York City. Listen as these remarkable voices discuss the reality of this bill, and about creating and supporting healthy families and a health care policy that respects our ability as individuals to decide the course of our own lives.
